How do I set up Message, Question, Selection and Form steps?
The four basic steps that talk to visitors and collect details: Message, Question, Selection and Form, with option sources and field validation.
Message and Question
These steps are in the “Conversation” and “Collecting details” categories of the palette. The “On-screen text” of every step is shown to the visitor and read aloud by the avatar.
- “Message”: the avatar says the text and the flow moves on to the next step automatically. Use it for greetings, information and transitions.
- “Question”: waits for a free answer, typed or spoken. The answer is saved under the name you enter in “Answer variable” and can be used in later steps as, for example, {city}.
The Selection step
“Selection” offers the visitor options. “Selection type”:
- “Single”: the visitor picks one option. With a static list each option can lead to its own step: pick it in the “Target step” list under the option, or connect the option's handle on the canvas.
- “Multiple”: several options can be checked and the step has a single exit.
The picked value is written to the “Answer variable”. If the visitor picks an option without a target, the flow ends; the editor warns you that the option has no target.
Option sources
There are three kinds of “Option source”:
- “Static list”: you type the options yourself with “Add option”.
- “From a tool”: the options are fetched, when the step opens, from an endpoint you defined on the Tools page; with single selection they appear as searchable cards. Enter fixed values or variables from earlier steps in “Tool fields”. “Fetch sample data” calls the tool once and finds the list in its response; then pick the “Title field” (the card's name) and the “Subtitle field” (for example the city or price) from the response. If the tool fails or returns nothing, the “Fallback options” are shown instead.
- “Previous action”: a list returned by an integration step that runs earlier in the flow (for example the cards in a Trello list). The picked item's name is saved to the variable, and its fields as {variable}_id, {variable}_url and so on.
To fetch data from your own system, first define a tool on the “Tools” page; see Tools.
Showing options as tabs
If the start step is a single-choice Selection with a static list of exactly two options, the “Show as tabs” option appears. When it's on, the options become fixed tabs at the top of the page instead of a one-time question; each tab runs its own independent session and isn't reset when switching. For each option, “Show the keyboard/microphone field on this tab” turns the input field on or off.
The Form step
“Form” collects several details at once. Add fields on the step panel's “Fields” tab with “Add field”. Field types: “Question / text”, “Single choice”, “Multiple choice”, “Date” (calendar picker), “Amount”, “Number”, “Card no.” (Luhn validated) and “IBAN” (format validated).
Each field has a “Label”, a “Key”, “Required”, and under “More settings” a “Placeholder text” and a “Validation rule”. The rules are: Turkish ID number (11 digits), tax ID (10 digits), Turkish ID or tax ID, mobile phone (5xx…), phone (10 digits), email, email or phone, date (DD.MM.YYYY), digits only, letters only, letters and digits, trade registry number, ID card serial number, postal code (5 digits) and MERSIS number (16 digits).
The key can't be empty or repeated within the step, or the flow can't be saved. If the form has a single field, it is asked on its own: leave its label empty and the step's text asks the question while the field opens directly (a calendar for dates).
